UPDATE ON 35 HIGH STREET (5:35 p.m.)
Further to the initial media release below, we are now able to confirm that the RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement And Response (CLEAR) Team conducted a search/examination of the Bridgewater Hotel during the afternoon of November 6, 2022.
The CLEAR Team’s examination of the hotel concluded the air quality on site was good and did not pose a risk to public safety.
The CLEAR Team also concluded that there was no evidence of a clandestine laboratory on the property.
Police presence was no longer required and the hotel was opened to allow guests and residents to return at approximately 5 p.m. this evening.

Subject: Investigation into source of reported gas odour (FILE #2022-1612945)
BRIDGEWATER, NS – Emergency responders were called to 35 High Street (Bridgewater Hotel) in Bridgewater at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in response to a report of a gaseous smell at the site. After securing the scene, a police investigation ensued.
The police investigation into the cause remains ongoing at this time. Emergency crews cleared the scene at approximately 6:30 a.m. on November 6, and there is no danger to the public.
Residents/guests at the location were transported to safe off-site locations overnight and local emergency officials are working with the Red Cross to provide shelter for those displaced until further notice.
