Subject: Arrest made stemming from outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property (FILE #2023-118239)
BRIDGEWATER, NS – Bridgewater Police Service (BPS) members made an arrest on Thursday, January 26, 2023, just before 2:30 p.m. in downtown Bridgewater connected to an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property.
A warrant of arrest had been issued on October 5, 2022, for Derrick Robar in relation to a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that was recovered on October 3. The vehicle had been stolen from a location on High Street in Bridgewater overnight on August 27, 2022.
Robar had lived in Bridgewater but was of no fixed address when the ATV was recovered in October.
RCMP in Lunenburg subsequently made two attempts to arrest Robar on the outstanding warrant, but he resisted arrest and fled on both occasions.
On January 26, 2023, BPS officers identified Robar on Queen Street in the Town of Bridgewater. Officers approached him and informed him that he was under arrest, but he immediately resisted arrest by fleeing on foot, heading east toward King Street.
With multiple officers in pursuit, Robar ran underneath the Old Bridge and positioned himself on the bridge support beams. BPS officers quickly secured the area around the intersection of King Street and Old Bridge and, after a brief negotiation, Robar climbed back toward officers and was arrested.
Robar was held in custody overnight and appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court to face charges on Friday, January 27, 2023. In addition to the outstanding charges, two additional charges were also pending from Thursday’s attempt to flee from police.
