BRIDGEWATER, NS – Bridgewater Police Service and members of RCMP Underwater Recovery Teams are on site near the former Port of Bridgewater property this afternoon to carry out a recovery operation following an incident on Sunday morning.
On February 19, 2023, Bridgewater Police and water rescue craft from Bridgewater Fire Department and Northfield District Fire Department responded to a call reporting that a vehicle was spotted submerging in the waters of the LaHave River near the south end of the port’s wharf.
Police learned that a vehicle had gone into the river after driving off the wharf. It was unknown if anyone was in the vehicle. It was subsequently determined that specialized underwater recovery personnel would be required to assist Bridgewater Police in retrieving the vehicle.
Today, Underwater Recovery Teams from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are on site. As the recovery and investigation operation takes place, Bridgewater Police are asking the public to avoid the area so that the Underwater Recovery Teams can carry out their work safely.
