Bridgewater Police Service seizes shotgun, local man faces firearm offences

Bridgewater Police Service officers discovered a pump action shotgun and a suite of ammunition while responding to a medical assist call on the west side of town.
On Monday, Oct. 5 at about 2:30 p.m., paramedics and Bridgewater Police Service officers were summoned to a Dufferin Street business address in response to an adult male outside appearing to be in medical distress.
Arriving police officers believed the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and took him into custody. The man had belongings contained in various bags. As police began gathering up bags, one officer noticed the stock of a long gun in plain view.
No one was hurt.
Police seized a number of shotgun shells, a black 12-gauge shotgun, among other items of evidentiary value.
As a result, a 39-year-old Lunenburg County resident will be charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon without a licence and possession of a prohibited weapon or a restricted weapon with ammunition.
The suspect was released on court-ordered conditions and is due to appear Dec. 16 in provincial court in Bridgewater. He cannot be named because charge documents have not yet been filed with the court.
The investigation is ongoing.
